Session II: Distorted Images
AT The Steigenberger Wiltcher’s Hotel
For our second exhibition we present medium sized paintings by two male artist, Patrick Ceysens and Ayrton Eblé. These two fine artists who differ considerably in age take on painting with vigour. In our engarde.brussels blog we called them ‘distorters’ because they use distortion as a modus operandi in their images.
But again their approach is different. The ‘older’ artist, Patrick, uses both digital and small scale physical techniques to erase and scratch the surfaces until the image reveals its ‘truth’, according to its maker, within a deliberate or accidental distortion.
The younger one, Ayrton uses very physical waste materials and construction materials to elaborately ‘build’ multi layered paintings that look like reliefs and also hide their ‘content’ - although abstract - for the superficial passer by.
With the support of engarde.brussels & Steigenberger Wiltcher’s Hotel we the curators will ask Ceysens and Eblé to make a new work where they will be able to comment or contemplate the work of the other by touching on the different approach of each.
